If you liked the first Poledouris score to Robocop, then you will like this one...BUT...there isn't a whole lot new to it...infact there isn't a lot to it at all. At just shy of 29 minutes, it's the shortest length score I own. I remember feeling a little cheated when I bought it, knowing the 'power' of the Robocop story, and the talent of the composer; Starship troopers is everything this score should have been.
The Robocop 3 score lacks any of the coldness or desparation found in the score to the first Robocop movie, and this may be due in part to the brief given to the composer in light of the movies' radical, albeit unsuccessful image overhaul. New to the themes are Otomo's heavily syn'd motif, and a reworked overture less "grounded" than the original which might suggest that the hero gets a rocket pack in this movie...and infact he does...
